Toronto FC rookie attacker Ifunanyachi Achara has undergone successful surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a lateral collateral ligament in his left knee, the club announced Thursday. The surgery was performed on Tuesday by Dr. Tim Dwyer and Dr. Danny Whelan at Women’s College Hospital in Toronto.

Achara, a hard-working, dynamic offensive presence on the wing, carried over a strong preseason by scoring on his MLS debut — the winner against NYCFC on March 7. However, a promising rookie season came to an unceremonious end when the Nigerian suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in July. 

COLLEGE: Achara spent four seasons at Georgetown and captained the Hoyas to the NCAA National Championship as a senior.
