Castrol Index Weekly Top 20: LA Galaxy's Jaime Penedo paces goalkeeper-heavy list this week

Defenses and goalkeepers dominated this week's Castrol Index Weekly Top 20. Of the 20 players on the list, 15 were of the defensive sort, with all coming in within the top 16 spots.

Jaime Penedo of the LA Galaxy was the top point-getter for the week. His clean sheet in a scoreless draw agains the San Jose Earthquakes earned him 1,543 points. In the same game, Jon Busch of the Quakes also earned a spot in the Top 20, finishing at No. 7 with 1,244.

In total, the Galaxy – in their 1-0 win against Montreal and draw vs. San Jose – had three playes finish in the top 10, with Penedo, Kofi Opare (No. 6, 1,247 points) and Leonardo (No. 10, 1,112 points). The Impact had two of the five offensive-minded players in the Top 20. Marco Di Vaio came in at No. 19 with 919 points for his goal in the Impact's 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union. Justin Mapp had an assist from his midfield position in the same game. Mapp came in at No. 17 with 953 points.

Montreal had four total players in the Top 20, the most of any team in this week's list. Defender Karl Ouimette had the game-winning goal for the Impact in the match vs. Philadelphia. He came in at No. 12 on the list with 1,049 points. One step ahead of Ouimette was Impact 'keeper Evan Bush. His performance in Montreal's 1-0 loss to LA (6 saves) earned him 1,096 points at the No. 11 spot.

In total, eight goalkeepers, seven defenders, three midfielders and two forwards made the list.
