Galaxy defeat Chicago Fire 2-1

CARSON, Calif. - The Los Angeles Galaxy defeated the Chicago Fire 2-1 Tuesday morning at The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills. Goals from defenders Tyrone Marshall and Chris Albright gave the Galaxy the win and improved the club's preseason record to 4-1-1.

The Fire staked an early lead on a successful Chris Rolfe penalty kick in the 14th minute. L.A.'s Jamaican international defender, Tyrone Marshall fouled Rolfe in the box in an attempt to clear the ball, leading to the penalty. The Fire forward proceeded to take the penalty himself and dispatched his shot past Joe Cannon, giving the Fire a 1-0 lead.

The Galaxy evened the contest in the 22nd minute as Marshal made amends for his earlier transgression. A free kick off the foot of Josh Gardner found Marshall deep in the box, and the big center back was able to put a header past Chicago goalkeeper Matt Pickens, tying the score at 1-1.

The score would stay that way until the second half before Chris Albright took his chance to play the hero. Albright scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute, firing a left-footed rocket from 35 yards out that beat the Fire's substitute keeper, Nick Noble to put the Galaxy in front for good. Albright, who had entered the game just minutes earlier, trapped a loose ball in traffic and launched a low shot that snuck inside the far post for his first tally of the preseason.

The Galaxy will return to action on Thursday, March 8, when they face the Houston Dynamo in preparation for the 2007 MLS season.
