Weekly update: Grudge match

CARSON, Calif. - Chivas USA resumes training this week ahead of its first postseason exhibition against fellow MLS expansion side Real Salt Lake. The exhibition game will take place on October 28 at 7:30 p.m. M.T. (6:30 p.m. PT) pat Rice-Eccles Stadium, in Utah. A documentary on Chivas USA titled 'Sí se Puede' will also be premiering this week on Sunday, at the Egyptian Theater at 11:00 a.m. PT.

TIE BREAKER AGAINST REAL SALT LAKE: Chivas USA will visit Real Salt Lake on October 28, in the first postseason exhibition which will be the tiebreaking game between the two expansion sides. During the 2005 MLS regular season, Chivas USA and Real Salt Lake faced each other on four occasions, with each team winning its two home contests. Chivas USA won 1-0 and 5-1, while RSL side won 2-0 and 2-1. Friday evening's 'rubber match' will also include a concert, a costume contest and several other Halloween activities.

CHIVAS USA DOCUMENTARY, ON THE BIG SCREEN: An exclusive documentary about Chivas USA titled, 'Sí se Puede' will make its world wide premier on Sunday, October 30 at the Los Angeles International Latino Film Festival and will take place at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood, California 'Sí se Puede' was directed by Sergio Guerrero and is a documentary that takes you through the start and present of Chivas USA in MLS.

CHIVAS USA PLAYERS RETURN FROM WEEK OFF: Chivas USA players and coaching staff took their first vacation since the MLS All-Star break in July. Most Mexican born players and coaches took advantage of the occasion to travel to Mexico for a week. The Red-and-White's holiday began a day after their closing MLS game against the MetroStars; and will resumes training on Tuesday, October 25.

CHIVAS USA FOR SIERRA MIST GOAL OF THE YEAR: Three of Chivas USA's goals where nominated out of the 40 for the Sierra Mist Goal of the Year for the 2005 MLS season. Ryan Suárez' Week 7 goal against the Colorado Rapids, Juan Pablo García's Week 21 goal in his Chivas USA debut against the MetroStars and Ramón Ramirez' freekick goal against San Jose on Week 25 are the three Chivas USA goals nominated for the award. Fans can vote via and can vote 10 times per day but may vote for only one goal at a time. There are three rounds of voting with the first concluding on October 25. The winner will be announced on Nov. 11.

GUADALAJARA UPDATE: This past Sunday, Chivas USA's sister team, Club Deportivo Guadalajara (popularly known as 'Chivas'), tied 0-0 against Pachuca on Matchday 13 (of 17) of the Mexican Apertura 2005 season. With the result, Chivas' record is now at 3-4-6 (W-L-T); with just four matches remaining in the regular season, the team sits on 15 points in fifth place in six-team Group 3. (The top two teams from each group, as well as the two best third-place finishers, advance to the Liguilla, or playoffs.) Up next Chivas will host Monarcas Morelia on Matchday 14, at 6:30 p.m. PT (8:30 p.m. local time) this Saturday.

CHIVAS USA SOCCER ACADEMY: The Chivas USA Soccer Academy continues play this week in preparation for this weekend's slate of games in Baldwin Park, with sessions at The Home Depot Center's Field 5 from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday. MINI-CHIVAGIRLS: The ChivaGirls are offering a clinic for Mini-ChivaGirls, where young women from 3 to 15 years old will be taught to dance and perform cheering routines. The classes will be held Wednesday and Friday afternoons at The Home Depot Center, with a cost of $50 per month, plus uniform costs. Participants will have a chance to take the field with the ChivaGirls during select Chivas USA home games, and will also be able to dance on the ChivaTown stage during halftime.
