The final game of the 2016 Texas Derby, a late-August meeting at BBVA Stadium, comes into the spotlight as part of Heineken Rivalry Week. FC Dallas fans will revel in the latest MLS Classics throwback, at least on a micro-level. Michael Barrios and Mauro Diaz did plenty of damage against the Houston Dynamo.
But the macro-level celebrations went to their Texas Derby nemesis. Due to goal differential, it ended a three-year drought for Houston in the battle for El Capitan, a replica 18th century mountain howitzer cannon that’s awarded to the annual rivalry winner.
As you get settled for the above stream, check out a complete history of the Texas Derby and a previous MLS Classics stream of this very meeting. The latter originally took place on Aug. 23, 2017 and featured six goals, including a late Erick Torres brace.
