WASHINGTON, D.C. – The MLS Cup trophy will remain in Washington, D.C.

D.C. United defeated the Colorado Rapids, 2-1, to defend their MLS Cup title in front of 57,431 fans at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.

Tony Sanneh led the way for United with a goal and an assist. Sanneh found match-MVP Jaime Moreno in the 37th minute to give D.C. a 1-0 lead, before he unleashed what would ultimately become the game-winning strike in the 68th minute.

Colorado substitute Adrian Paz cut the deficit in half in the 75th minute after connecting on a feed from David Patino, but couldn’t come up with a late equalizer as United held on to win their second consecutive MLS title.
