HOW ACQUIRED: Via trade from Sporting Kansas City on Dec. 8, 2014, in exchange for the No. 10 pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.

A big personality with big-time talent, Sapong is a classic No. 9 forward, able to control the offense with hold-up play in the attacking third. The 2011 MLS Rookie of the year tied his career high with nine goals in 2015, and is already off to a fast start in 2016. After maturing in Kansas City, Sapong is leading the line effectively for the Union, and will hope to establish himself as an all-star caliber forward in the coming years.

INTERNATIONAL: Sapong was invited to the U.S. Men’s National Team’s 2012 January camp, culminating in caps during friendlies against Venezuela and Panama.

COLLEGE: Sapong was the first player at James Madison to win conference First-Team honors four times and the 2010 CAA  Player of the Year. Also a two-time NSCAA First Team All-South Atlantic Region selection (2009-10).
