Jurgen Klinsmann after the USMNT loss to Costa Rica

Report: USMNT to meet Austria in November friendly four days after Scotland trip

It looks as if the dates are falling into place for the US national team.

According to a report from Grant Wahl at SI.com on Monday, the team is close to adding Austria to its list of opponents before the year is out, likely on Nov. 19.

U.S. Soccer announced earlier this month that the 2014 World Cup participants will meet Scotland at Glasgow's Hampden Park in a friendy on Nov 15.

According the Wahl, the match is dependent on whether Austria are still alive in World Cup qualifying. Unless the Austrians somehow beat out Sweden for second place in UEFA's Group C (they're three points behind them with two games to go), they will be available in November and won't be involved in Europe's playoff round for the region's final spots in Brazil next summer.

When contacted by MLSsoccer.com on Monday, a U.S. Soccer spokesman would only say that "we have spoken to a number of federations about a match in Europe on Nov. 19."

Austria is the homeland of Jurgen Klinsmann's assistant coach and onetime LA Galaxy midfielder Andreas Herzog.

Wahl also reports that the USMNT will split its annual January camp between Carson, Calif., and São Paulo, Brazil — where the team allegeldy will set up shop during the World Cup.

The US clinched their seventh straight World Cup berth after defeating Mexico last month 2-0 in Columbus. Klinsmann's men next take the pitch on Oct. 11 in Kansas City against Jamaica in World Cup qualifying, followed by the CONCACAF Hexagonal finale in Panama four days later.
