he has to do some more in there, but he showed some signs. Zoltan came on and was doing a lot around the ball, really wanted it. ... Josh [Wolff] did a really good job up front working and being dangerous. We're determining some guys are looking good. And some guys maybe need to be changed out."
The Wizards currently sit nine points out of the playoff hunt, and even though they have games in hand on all their opponents, they need wins if they want to make the playoffs.
"I never expected to come in here in the interim and be a magician and fix everything all at one time. I really believe that it is a process to build something," said Vermes. "And anybody who thinks it's going to be like that, a fast little thing, I'm definitely not the right guy for it. But we have something here we can build from."
Zoltan Hercegfalfi made his Wizards and MLS debut, coming into the game with just a little more than a quarter of the match to go. But after he was sent off for a tackle on Mike Banner, he will miss out on the trip to San Jose.
"I think that he played very well when he came in. We're trying to build him up to be able to be a mainstay with the team. I think he's acclimating himself a little more quickly than we anticipated because he's getting more fit," said Vermes. Said Zoltan: "It was like a preseason game for me, so I thought it went pretty well. I felt like I fit into the team pretty well quickly. I feel ashamed that I got the red card. It was a tactical foul for me, but that's the referee's decision so I have to live with it."
