CHICAGO FIRE 2, COLUMBUS CREW 2
CHICAGO FIRE HEAD COACH DENIS HAMLETT
On Chicago's offense:
"Our guys showed we wanted to get into the playoffs. We made some nice plays after we got down and then we were able to walk away with some a point and a spot in the playoffs."
On Brian McBride:
"I thought he would put a lot of energy into this game because it was against his former team. He played a good game and got into spots and was able to finish."
"Mike Banner and Patrick Nyarko gave us a push. Both were involved in plays that led to chances after they came into the game."
"We wanted to get back to where we finished last season and getting into the playoffs is the first step to doing that. We now control out own destiny for home field in the first round. I want us to build on these last games in the regular season and go into the playoffs with a good frame of mind."
CHICAGO FIRE FORWARD BRIAN McBRIDE
On the game:
"Columbus has been a good, consistent team all year. I took today's game like I do every game. I tried to help my teammates win the game."
On the Fire attack:
"I thought we should have had more goals today. The ball was bouncing right and we had a chance to attack. When we moved the ball on them we caused some problems."
On his first goal:
"The first goal, the ball was on top of me quick and I got a good piece of it."
CHICAGO FIRE MIDFIELDER JUSTIN MAPP
On the comeback:
"Our guys never gave up after we fell behind. Brian had a great game and both of his goals were great. He had a great game today."
CHICAGO FIRE GOALKEEPER JON BUSCH
On the Fire defense:
"I thought in the first 70 minutes or so our defense was pretty good. After they scored their first goal we kind of lost our focus and allowed them to take the lead. After about 10 minutes we got our shape back. When we give up a goal we have to keep our shape."
COLUMBUS CREW HEAD COACH SIGI SCHMID
On the first half:
"We obviously came out with a lack of concentration and energy, during halftime I had a good talk with the team and I let them know I was disappointed with the way they were playing. We didn't get to the position that we find ourselves in by playing that way."
On the result:
"I think the result was fair, like I said before the first half was not a good one for us. Chicago took advantage of the opportunity they had, and got on top with the halftime lead. In the second half I though we came out with a lot more and energy and we were able to tie it up with the goal by Gaven. The second goal was a great play on the counterattack and the finish by Schelotto. He has been great all year and since he's been here in Columbus our offensive game goes trough him."
On the goals by Chicago:
"I'm a little disappointed that both of the goals came off set pieces, that's something we work on and it shouldn't happen. McBride is like a magnet and the ball always finds him and the guy who was supposed to be marking him wasn't there, its definitely something that concerns me and we need to work on it at practice."
COLUMBUS CREW MIDFIELDER GUILLERMO BARROS SCHELOTTO
On the game:
"It seemed like we came with a lack of concentration, we came here with the idea of clinching the Supporters' Shield but getting a tie on the road is not bad, especially since Chicago has always played us hard the last two years since I've been at Columbus."
On his goal:
"It came after Blanco's corner on a counterattack, O'Rourke made a nice play bringing in the ball from the back and sent it down the sideline to Robbie and I was wide open in the middle of the field and just had to finish. I fortunately did and it gave us the lead for a short time but we are happy with getting a point on the road."
