Chivas reserves draw with RSL reserves

The Chivas USA Reserves drew 1-1 with the Real Salt Lake Reserves in a game played this morning in the Track and Field Stadium at The Home Depot Center in Carson. Kraig Chiles gave the Red-and-White the lead in the 14th minute of the match, but Salt Lake midfielder Matias Cordoba struck back in second half injury time to earn the draw.

The teams traded chances early in the game before Chiles, a rookie midfielder from San Diego State, took a pass from Anthony Hamilton and fired a low shot past Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Chris Seitz. Chiles almost scored a second goal in the 30th minute, but Seitz got a hand to a 25-yard shot to put it out for a corner.

Real Salt Lake forwards Yura Movsisyan and Fabian Espindola linked up for two chances in the first half, but could not beat Chivas USA goalkeeper Lance Parker. Espindola finally created the goal for Salt Lake in the 90th minute when he split a pair of Red-and-White defenders and sent a dangerous cross into the box. Brennan Tennelle won a header, which struck the post, and Cordoba played the rebound into the net.

The Chivas USA Reserves have now played two 1-1 draws in their first two games of the season after earning the same result against FC Dallas one week ago. The team's next match will be against FC Dallas again on Monday, April 21, the day after the Chivas USA first team's next home match, against the Texan side on Sunday, April 20, at 5:00 p.m. PT.
