Kelyn Rowe has quietly been one of the league's true masters of shooting from distance over the past few years. He has a cannon of a right foot.
In 2015, however, we've seen a different mentality around the box, and Rowe has gotten better and better at finding gaps and punishing sleepy defenders at the back post. He's still a midfielder, still a creator, still a guy who's dangerous from 35 yards and in … but he's also turned into a little bit of a poacher. It's an unexpected twist from a guy who hadn't previously looked 100-percent comfortable around the box.
That, and an ever-developing defensive sense of the game, has gotten Rowe back into the lineup after fighting for playing time earlier in the season, and he looks a good bet to set new career highs in both goals and assists.
What the technical staffers say: "He’s a guy a little bit like Harry Shipp, where he’s so quick and easy on the ball, it’s hard to corner him and close him down in the moment. He’s always going to pull something out of the bag and slip by a guy, he’s so good at shifting to the next spot and making plays.
"Half the time, I don’t think he knows what he’s going to do when he gets the ball.
What Opta Sports says: Kelyn Rowe’s 20 career MLS goals rank seventh among eligible 24 Under 24 players. He has created 138 chances for teammates in his MLS career, most among all eligible players.
