Where does he fit?
That's the question Cubo will have to answer over the season's final month as he battles with Will Bruin and Giles Barnes for increasingly scant minutes up top in Houston. After a brief and unhappy return to Guadalajara, he's come back to MLS and has yet to play meaningful minutes for Owen Coyle's squad.
At this time last year, he was arguably the fastest-rising player on this list, on his way to becoming a full-fledged Mexican international. Now he looks like an afterthought and has to use CONCACAF Olympic qualifying – he was named to El Tri's 20-man roster – to rediscover his scoring touch.
What the technical staffers say: "If you asked me that question when he was with Chivas, I’d give you more of an endorsement. He was playing consistenty, looked like he had something to prove, with a chip on his shoulder. He makes good runs in the final third, wasn’t afraid of contact.
"I don’t know what his fitness and form is now. I would say I think he’s a guy – I think Houston’s the kind of team that he could do OK with. There are better players around him than there were at Chivas, so he just needs time to settle in and get minutes on a consistent basis."
What Opta Sports says: Cubo Torres led all of this year’s 24 Under 24-eligible players with 15 goals scored in MLS last season. He has yet to score thus far in 2015 after spending the first half of the season at Chivas de Guadalajara.
