Yer a wizard, Harry.
Shipp has been the best playmaker for the Fire since he first set foot on the field for his hometown team nearly two years ago, and by all metrics, he's been one of the best in the league as well. The Notre Dame hero – he led the Fighting Irish to their first national title in the 2013 season – has been able to break down defenses from the flank or through the middle, and he weights a through ball like the Argentine masters of old. His game may be a throwback, but he also represents the future for a Chicago team that need to build their attack around the local kid made good.
What the technical staffers say: "When I watch Harry play, I see just a running soccer brain. His soccer IQ is so high."
"He never corners himself. The confidence he’s had to make some plays around goal, and the understanding of where he has to be to make those plays, makes defenders have to respect that they have to lay off of him a little bit, which gives him room to be a better passer. He's not an easy guy to play against, but he needs to be cleaner with his touches in midfield, and I think his finishing has taken a step backward this season."
What Opta Sports says: Harry Shipp has created 50 chances in MLS this season, 14 more than any other 24 Under 24-eligible player.
