World Cup: Bridge overpass in semifinal host city Belo Horizonte collapses, killing at least one

Although the 2014 World Cup in Brazil has been largely successful so far, a bridge collapse in host city Belo Horizonte has brought revelers back down to earth.

Multiple news outlets, including Reuters, have reported on Thursday that a bridge collapsed over a highway, crushing vehicles below. At least one person was killed by the incident.

Belo Horizonte's Estadio Mineirao has hosted five games so far in the World Cup, including Brazil's penalty shootout victory over Chile in the Round of 16 on Saturday. The venue will also host one of the semifinal matches on July 8.

Heading into the tournament, one of the grievances Brazilians who were involved in protest movements around the country about hosting the World Cup frequently made was the deteriorating condition of the nation's infrastructure.
