Uruguay are looking to make another deep run on the international stage in the 2014 World Cup, and they'll do it with many of the same players that have brought them recent success.

Head coach Óscar Tabárez on Monday named a 25-man provisional roster, plus three reserves, ahead of next month's tournament in Brazil, making few changes from the squad that finished as semifinalists in the 2010 World Cup and won the 2011 Copa América.

Diego Forlán (above), winner of the Golden Ball as the best player in 2010, will retake his place at the head of Uruguay's fearsome attack after a winter move to Japan's Cerezo Osaka. Also present are Liverpool striker Luis Suárez and Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani, making a tricky defensive proposition for La Celeste's three group opponents – England, Italy and Costa Rica.

There are a pair of MLS connections on the roster: former Chicago Fire midfielder Arévalo Ríos made the cut, while former Seattle Sounders and Fire attacking midfielder Álvaro Fernández is one of three reserves available in case one of the squad drops out.
