Super Draft 2014

New England Revolution SuperDraft Preview: Filling the hole left by Juan Agudelo

Ahead of the 2014 SuperDraft, MLSsoccer.com is breaking down each team's needs and potential draft targets. Here's a look at where the New England Revolution need help:

After a miserable start in 2013, everything seemed to click once summer came along. Jay Heaps got the lineups and tactics right, youngsters Diego Fagundez and Kelyn Rowe hit their stride, and Jose Goncalves marshalled the backline like a monster.

But the real key might have been Juan Agudelo's arrival. And now he's gone.

New England Revolution SuperDraft Picks: #4 (1st Rd), #12 (1st Rd), #19 (1st Rd), #31 (2nd Rd), #50 (3rd Rd)

New England Revolution Depth Chart: 22 players

Goalkeepers (3): Bobby Shuttleworth, Brad Knighton, Luis Soffner

Right Backs (2): Andrew Farrell, Kevin Alston

Left Backs (3): Chris Tierney, Darrius Barnes, O'Brian Woodbine

Center Backs (3): Jose Goncalves, A.J. Soares, Stephen McCarthy

Center Mids (3): Scott Caldwell, Andy Dorman, Paolo DelPiccolo

Left Mids (2): Diego Fagundez, Donnie Smith

Right Mids (1): Saer Sene

Attacking Mids (2): Kelyn Rowe, Lee Nguyen

Forwards (3): Dimitry Imbongo, Jerry Bengtson, Charlie Davies

International slots (3 of 8 remaining): Bengtson, Imbongo, Sene, Goncalves, Woodbine

New England's Primary Need: Forward

The Revs have lost Agudelo for good. Bengtson is rightfully on the trade block, Imbongo is a back-up, and at this point in his career, Davies is more likely to add depth at wide midfield/winger. Scuttlebutt around the Combine is that the Revs moved up specifically to take Patrick Mullins.

Targets: Patrick Mullins (Maryland)

Secondary Need: Wide midfield

The Revs got a ton of production from the wide midfield spots last year – that’s where Fagundez set up shop – but things are looking a bit uncertain now with Sene’s health in question. Rowe has proved to be too valuable to move out of the middle, so depth has to be a concern.

Targets: Ryan Neil (California), Andre Lewis (Jamaica U-20s), Schillo Tshuma (Maryland - GA)
