Spotted: Jimmy Conrad wearing full Mexico kit – but why? Jimmy can explain | SIDELINE
— Michael Ehrlich (@adidasUSPRGuy) November 14, 2013
Jimmy Conrad is a national treasure. No, really, he is.
Not only did he serve the US national team on 27 different occasions, scoring once — against the USMNT's fiercest rivals, Mexico — and play 13 years in Major League Soccer for three different teams, but he's also the world's greatest Internet faux journalist extraordinaire (his words, not mine) for KICKTV.
So why in the world was he spotted wearing a Mexican national team jersey in Portland over the weekend?
According to Conrad, he was the victim of a not-so-funny practical joke played on him by some of the folks at adidas. He was in town for the company's pre-World Cup event and unveiling of the new adizero F50.
"When I went down to get my bag to change, I was last," Conrad told the North American Soccer Network's Soccer Morning host Jason Davis on Monday. "Adidas thought it would be funny to put me in a Mexico jersey, so I have a full kit Mexico jersey. I wasn't happy about it."
To hear the rest of Conrad's explanation — as well as his thoughts on the USMNT's 0-0 draw against Scotland and the upcoming friendly against Austria — check out the entire interview below (starting at the 30:02 mark).
