Report: LA Galaxy among suitors for AS Roma star Javier Pastore

Javier Pastore - AS Roma - tight shot

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Report

Javier Pastore is again linked as an LA Galaxy transfer target, with Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport identifying the MLS club as a potential destination for the Argentine midfielder.

Pastore, who had reported interest from the Galaxy back in June, is under contract with AS Roma through 2023. However, the 31-year-old was in and out of Roma’s lineup all season, logging 11 Serie A appearances in 2019-20 and none since a late-June defeat against AC Milan.

The initial report also identifies Russian Premier League side Zenit St. Petersburg as a possible destination for Pastore, who has two goals in 29 caps for the Argentine national team. He moved to Europe in 2009, first at Palermo before helping Paris Saint-Germain win five Ligue 1 titles.

The Galaxy pose an obvious Argentine link via head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who managed Boca Juniors from 2016-18. But Pastore also wouldn’t represent a straightforward addition, since Jonathan dos Santos, Cristian Pavon and Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez all currently occupy Designated Player slots.

Then again, LA have shown creativity on this front like when initially adding Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a Targeted Allocation Money deal in 2018. Pastore would require a significant transfer fee and wages investment, so the finances complicate matters. Another report cites Roma as being willing to sell Pastore for €10 million.
