TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

Inter Miami's hunt for top-shelf talent hasn't turned up any big-name results yet, though that could soon change.

Days after Sports Illustrated reported the club's interest in Monterrey striker Rogelio Funes Mori, Univision commentator Ivan Kasanzew echoed that link, suggesting the 28-year-old Argentine could be acquired to fill one of the expansion side's two open Designated Player slots.

One of the most fearsome finishers on the continent, Funes Mori was said to be the LA Galaxy's back-up option should their swoop for Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez have fallen through, withSI's Grant Wahl reporting he "would have been available on a $10 million transfer fee and an annual salary of $4 million to $5 million."

A Best XI honoree in Liga MX's 2019 Apertura season, won by Monterrey, Funes Mori also helped Los Rayados hoist last year's Concacaf Champions League trophy as well as a Copa MX title in 2017.

He and his twin brother Ramiro, a center back currently with Villarreal in Spain, have an MLS link in their past: Both spent a brief time in FC Dallas' fledgling youth system a decade ago after Rogelio won the 2008 edition of the "Sueño MLS" talent search.
