Stejskal: FC Dallas Homegrown Chris Richards set for loan to Bayern Munich

Chris Richards - Bayern Munich - FC Dallas

UPDATE: FC Dallas and Bayern Munich confirmed the loan deal on July 9. This article was originally published on July 3.

FC Dallas defender Chris Richards is set to head on loan to Bayern Munich, sources told MLSsoccer.com on Tuesday. The loan will likely run through the end of 2018, according to the sources.

Richards, 18, signed a Homegrown contract with FCD in April but has not yet been officially added to the club’s MLS roster as he works to complete his Homegrown eligibility requirements. An Alabama native, Richards joined the FC Dallas academy in 2017. MLS teams can’t add Homegrown players to their roster until they’ve spent a full year in their academy, a mark that Richards hasn’t yet hit.

The sources said that Richards will train and play with Munich’s Under-19s while in Germany. A US Under-20 international, he spent 10 days training with Bayern Munich in May as part of the new player development partnership between FCD and the German giants.
