Orlando City SC 0, Montreal Impact 2 | 2018 MLS Match Recap

It's only been 10 days since the Montreal Impact defeated Orlando City SC, 3-0, which turned out to be Jason Kreis's last match in charge of Orlando. And despite a new (interim) coach, different venue, and new formation, the result was similar Saturday night when the teams met again, this time the Impact claiming the three points with a 2-0 win in Florida.

Orlando interim coach Bobby Murphy lined up his side in a 3-4-3 formation, but it was the Impact who created the better chances. It took only 13 minutes for the visitors to take the lead when Matteo Mancuso's cross was deflected in by Orlando defender Lamine Sane for the own goal.

Never really pressured, Montreal put the game away late when Ignacio Piatti snuck in behind the defense to score his eighth of the year, extending Orlando's losing streak in league play to seven straight.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: Orlando still expects to make the playoffs, but whomever the new coach is will have some work to do. Despite being behind for much of the game, Orlando's three forwards - Justin Meram, Dom Dwyer and Josue Colman - didn't even get one shot off. Montreal, on the other hand, has now won three of their last four.

  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH:
The early own goal effectively put the game away.

  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Matteo Mancuso didn't get credit for the first goal, but he caused it by getting forward and sending in the cross. He also kept Orlando on alert all night - which stood out even more when you compare the little impact Orlando's front line had.
