The Montreal Impact announced on Friday they have waived midfielder Marco Donadel.

Donadel, 35, made 67 MLS regular season appearances and 8 MLS Cup Playoffs appearances for the Impact, after joining ahead of the 2015 season. This season, the Italian made two appearances for Montreal.

"I want to thank Marco for his contribution to the Montreal Impact, on and off the field," said president Joey Saputo in a team statement. "He was a true professional and brought his precious experience to the team during important moments. He proudly wore the club's colors while immersing himself to life in Montreal with his family. I wish him a lot of success for the remainder of his career."

Prior to playing for Montreal, Donadel had spent his career in his native country, playing for AC Milan, Lecce, Parma, Sampdoria, Fiorentina, Napoli and Hellas Verona.

Donadel was also a key player in the Impact's run to the 2014-15 Concacaf Champions League final, becoming the first Canadian team to reach the final in the regional competition.

"This decision was made in order to give us some roster flexibility as we move into the summer transfer window," said Impact technical director Adam Braz. "We want to thank Marco for his contribution to the club over the last few years. His dedication and commitment is greatly appreciated and we wish him the best of luck moving forward."
