Toronto FC announced on Wednesday that the club has re-signed goalkeeper Alex Bono to a contract extension, a reflection of his role in the Redsā€™ 2017 treble campaign and sustained run of success over the past three years.

Bono, 24, has made 18 appearances across all competitions in 2018, recording a record of 7-6-5 and registering four clean sheets across league and Concacaf Champions League play for TFC. Last season Bono set club records for most clean sheets in league play in a single season (10) and league wins in a single season (19). He also holds Torontoā€™s record for wins across all competitions (37).

In 10 MLS games this year, Bono has made 37 saves on 55 shots faced, conceding 18 goals and compiling a goals-against average of 1.80 with a save percentage of 67.3.

ā€œAlex was a big part of our success last season. He set club records for wins and clean sheets and was a critical piece of our championship team,ā€ said TFC senior VP and GM Tim Bezbatchenko in a club release. ā€œSince joining the club as a first round pick in 2015, Alexā€™s ability to make key saves in big moments has been critical to our success.ā€

Bono, who reportedly drew interest from Europe earlier this year, has also climbed into the US menā€™s national team picture. He made his USMNT debut and earned a clean sheet in a 3-0 victory over Bolivia at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pennsylania on May 28.
