The Houston Dynamo added to their midfield corps on Monday, announcing they have added experienced player Luis Gil on loan from Liga MX side Queretaro FC.

To pave the way for the deal, the Dynamo traded their natural fourth-round pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, plus additional future considerations, to Real Salt Lake for the player's MLS rights for the rest of the 2018 season.

“We are pleased to welcome Luis to the Houston Dynamo,” said Dynamo senior vice president and general manager Matt Jordan in a team statement. “His familiarity with our club and staff along with his quality as a player will make him a positive addition for our group.”

Gil, 24, joins the Dynamo after playing for RSL from 2010-15 and for Orlando City SC and Colorado Rapids in 2017. He signed with Queretaro in 2016 and played there before returning to MLS on loan last year.

In 155 career MLS regular season appearances, he's tallied 11 goals and nine assists, and has also played 11 MLS Cup Playoffs games to date.

“We are happy to bring Luis in because he’s an outstanding player, a US men’s national team caliber player,” Dynamo head coach Wilmer Cabrera said. “He’s young, he has a lot of ability and he’s confident, and now his teammates and our club must help him to feel comfortable and happy to perform and to display the tools and the game that he has.”
