FC Dallas 3, Seattle Sounders 0 | 2018 MLS Match Recap

FC Dallas notched their first MLS win of 2018 on Sunday, beating a 10-man Seattle Sounders team 3-0 at Toyota Stadium.

Roland Lamah opened the scoring in the 20th minute after Mauro Diaz slipped a throughball onto the feet of the speedy Michael Barrios. Barrios was able to square the ball to Lamah, who had a simple tap-in to give Dallas a 1-0 lead.

The match took a turn in the 37th minute when Clint Dempsey was shown a red card after Video Review. The Sounders forward was sent off for violent conduct and the short-handed Seattle side had to play the rest of the match in the second half.

Oscar Pareja's team put the game out of reach in the first 20 minutes of the second half with Maxi Urruti and Lamah adding two goals against a stretched Seattle defense.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: The Sounders had a rough week and it only got worse in Texas, having to play 53 minutes down a man after starting the match without Will Bruin and Nicolas Lodeiro. They play only one more match over the next month so they should see some of their injured players get healthy. Dallas will try to build more confidence at home after this win, playing next week at home against a struggling Portland side.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Dempsey's red card gave the Sounders very little chance of getting back into the match. With a tense midweek match, having to play a man down was a tough ask. They will be looking to get their first points of 2018 in a couple weeks.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Has to be Lamah given that he was involved in all three goals. Diaz and Barrios deserve shoutouts as their vision and speed gave the Seattle backline fits.
