The Houston Dynamo signed veteran goalkeeper Chris Seitz via MLS free agency on Friday, the club announced.

Seitz, 30, is the only goalkeeper currently on Houstonā€™s roster after the club declined the contract options of Tyler Deric and Calle Brown earlier this month. Joe Willis, who started eight regular season games in net for the Dynamo in 2017, is out of contract.

ā€œThe addition of Chris Seitz will strengthen our team in goal right away. He is a steady and reliable presence and understands what it takes to be successful in MLS,ā€ said Dynamo GM Matt Jordan said in a statement released by the club. ā€œWe look forward to him joining our team as we continue to build our roster for 2018.ā€

An 11-year MLS veteran, Seitz spent the last seven seasons with FC Dallas. He has 97 career regular season appearances and 96 starts and has registered 18 shutouts. He had his best season in 2016, when he helped lead FCD to their Supportersā€™ Shield and US Open Cup triumphs. He started 28 regular season matches that year and posted a career-best 1.04 goals-against average. He lost his starting job to Jesse Gonzalez late in 2016, and started just five regular season matches this year.

Seitz was selected by Real Salt Lake with the fourth overall pick of the 2007 MLS SuperDraft. He was traded to Philadelphia in 2010 before landing in Dallas in 2011.

The Dynamo now have 18 players under contract.

ā€œChris Seitz is a very talented and experienced goalkeeper in Major League Soccer. He was one of the key components for FC Dallas when they won the Supportersā€™ Shield in 2016,ā€ said head coach Wilmer Cabrera. ā€œEvery time he is on the field, he is a very solid and dependable goalkeeper. With his experience and his leadership, he will be a good role model to all the players.ā€
