Report: Colorado Rapids near head coach decision, shuffle front office

Padraig Smith - Colorado Rapids

Hiring a new head coach is far from the only item on the Colorado Rapidsā€™ agenda this offseason.

Interim GM Padraig Smith told The Denver Postā€™s Daniel Boniface on Tuesday that the club, who are in the final stages of inking a new manager, will also hire a new assistant GM, director of player personnel and a head of sports science this winter. He also said that that director of soccer Claudio Lopez will not return to the club in 2018 following the expiration of his contract this offseason.

ā€œThereā€™s no doubt itā€™s going to be an offseason overhaul in here,ā€ Smith told The Denver Post. ā€œBoth on the field and off the field.ā€

The Rapids are currently in the final stages of their head coaching search, and have been heavily linked in recent weeks to current New Zealand manager Anthony Hudson.

Smith said on Tuesday that the Rapids have identified the coach ā€œthat we want to take us forwardā€ and that ā€œpeople can expect an announcement in the coming weeks.ā€ New Zealand are currently preparing for their World Cup qualification playoff against Peru that will be played over the next week.
