Sebastien Le Toux and Jared Jeffrey scored goals two minutes apart, and a short-handed D.C. United side held on for 2-2 draw against the New England Revolution on a damp Saturday night at Gillette Stadium.

The result marked United's first points on the road this season, and a second consecutive home draw for the Revs.

Lee Nguyen scored five minutes into the first half, and the Revs pulled level three minutes after halftime through what was ruled Sean Franklin's own goal. 

Both sides had chances late, with Teal Bunbury flubbing a sitter in the 81st minute, and Jose Guillermo Ortiz firing high deep into stoppage time on a promising look.

But D.C. was likely to depart the pitch the happier of the two sides after illness and injury conspired to limit several of their regulars.

Three Things

1. DC WHO?-NITED: The Black-and-Red featured an unusual Starting XI. Coach Ben Olsen gave Le Toux his first start over Ortiz, and Maxim Tissot also made his D.C. debut while illness kept Taylor Kemp sidelined. An ankle injury reduced Luciano Acosta to a substitute role on the Gillette Stadium turf, and Kofi Opare made his 2017 to fill in for captain Steve Birnbaum (concussion protocol).
2. SHOULD’VE DONE BETTER: A 2-2 draw was perhaps deserved, but the Revs’ attackers may wonder what may have been with better finishing. Bunbury’s 81st-minute miscue was particularly glaring, but Kei Kamara’s earlier failure to redirect a rebound of Diego Fagundez’s effort goalward in the 24th minute was also an excellent chance missed.
3. POST SECRETS?: New England hit the woodwork as much as any team in MLS in 2016, but it was D.C. who struck the goalframe three times on Saturday. Rookie Ian Harkes saw both the left upright and the crossbar deny him a first professional goal before halftime, and Nguyen did just enough to redirect Lamar Neagle’s goalbound header onto the crossbar in the 61st minute. For the Revs, Kamara headed off the crossbar for New England in the 81st, moments before Bunbury’s infamous rebound attempt.
