Canada national team to host Curacao in pre-Gold Cup friendly in Montreal

The Canadian national team are headed back to Montreal this summer, for the first time in seven years.


Canada Soccer announced on Saturday that the CanMNT will host Curacao in an international friendly at the Montreal Impact’s Stade Saputo home on June 13, part of Les Rouges’ preparations for the 2017 Gold Cup.


Both teams will compete in the Gold Cup, which takes place July 7-26 at 14 venues across the United States.

Two-time tournament champions Canada have been drawn into a tough-looking Group A and will face French Guiana on July 7, Costa Rica on July 11 and Honduras on July 14. Curacao are making their Gold Cup debut, and the Caribbean Cinderellas will meet Jamaica on July 9, El Salvador on July 13 and Mexico on July 16.


Canada last played in Montreal in September 2010, when they defeated Honduras 2-1 at Stade Saputo.
