Leg injury forces Toronto FC's Sebastian Giovinco to exit match vs. Union

Sebastian Giovinco limped off the field in the 47th minute of Toronto FC's match against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday.

The 2015 Landon Donovan MLS MVP left the game after being fouled by Oguchi Onyewu. Giovinco had to be helped off the field and was hesitant to put weight on his right leg.

"He’s OK. He’s sore. It was a contusion on the IT band around the side of the leg," said Toronto FC head coach Greg Vanney after the match. "When that gets swollen and tightened up, it’s tough to loosen up and move. We’ll see how he progresses over the next couple of days.

"It’s the outside of the quadriceps. It’s a charley horse, a contusion. But it’s on the IT band which runs down the outside of the leg. When that tightens up it’s really difficult to move with any sort of freedom."

Giovinco is coming off another stellar season in 2016, collecting 17 goals and 15 assists. He was not heavily involved in the game on Saturday, attempting just eight passes and taking one shot in 47 minutes.
