MLS, U.S. Soccer, and NWSL to host “Head Injury in Soccer; From Science to the Field”
NEW YORK
(April 18, 2017) - In a coordinated effort to provide greater information about head injury prevention and management in the sport of soccer, Major League Soccer, U.S. Soccer, and the National Women’s Soccer League will host a medical summit, “
Head Injury in Soccer; From Science to the Field
”, on April 21-22 in New York.
With the mission of identifying, presenting, and disseminating evidence-based principles, policies, and procedures regarding head injuries, the summit will bring together medical professionals and soccer administrators from amateur and professional soccer organizations alike.
The summit will include a day-and-a-half of presentations by expert researchers and health care professionals knowledgeable on head injury and concussions in soccer.  Co-chaired by a joint MLS and U.S. Soccer medical advisory board of George Chiampas DO, Margot Putukian MD, Ruben Echemendia PhD and Bert Mandelbaum MD, the summit will open with a presentation of soon-to-be-released key findings and conclusions from the 2016 Berlin Consensus meeting on Concussion in Sport. 
Throughout the conference, specialists will discuss state of the art principles, concepts, mechanism and innovative treatments for head injuries and concussions specific to the game of soccer for all ages, levels of participation, and genders for the sport.
Beyond the scientific and medical presentations, panels including players, coaches, referees, and leaders in the soccer world will provide a forum for discussions about player safety.
