Rapids star Tim Howard pens moving personal essay for "CBS This Morning"

Tim Howard - Colorado Rapids - Stares out from goal - Side angle

Before his Colorado Rapids host the LA Galaxy in Leg 2 of their Western Conference Semifinal series on Sunday (2 pm ET; ESPN, ESPN Deportes in the US; TSN5 in Canada), Tim Howard shared a little bit about his story – in his own words.

The longtime US national team goalkeeper penned and recited a personal essay for CBS This Morning’s ongoing series “Note to Self” that aired on Thursday.

Howard looked back at his storied career in the piece, reflecting on the highs, lows and moments of inspiration and strength that took him from the MetroStars to Manchester United, then to Everton and eventually, to the Rapids.

"Never ever lose that undying belief in yourself and your abilities that you’ve had since age 6, when Esther Howard signed you up for the North Brunswick Township recreational soccer league," Howard counsels his younger self.

"Because here’s the thing: The world has lazily decided that self-confidence and self-belief are one and the same, and I’m here to tell you unequivocally that they are dead wrong."
