Dom Dwyer undergoes ankle surgery, expected to be ready for preseason

Dom Dwyer - Sporting Kansas City - September 24, 2016

Sporting Kansas City striker Dom Dwyer began his offseason by going under the knife.

According to the Kansas City Star’s Sam McDowell, Dwyer underwent arthroscopic surgery to clear out bone spurs in his right ankle on Wednesday. The operation was considered minor, and Dwyer is expected to be fully ready for preseason camp in January.

Dwyer and SKC were eliminated from the playoffs last week, losing a controversial Knockout Round match 1-0 at Seattle.

Dwyer led SKC with 16 goals and recorded a career-high three assists in 33 regular season games this year. The 26-year-old has 50 goals in his last three seasons, second most in MLS in that span behind only New York Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright-Phillips.
