It was a first in USL history, as an MLS-owned team, New York Red Bulls II, won the league title for the first time, after beating fellow MLS-owned side Swope Park Rangers 5-1 in the USL Cup final on Sunday at Red Bull Arena.

And MLS players on loan at NYRBII lead the way, with Homegrown forward Brandon Allen (pictured above for the senior team) scoring a hat trick for the hosts and another Homegrown forward, Derrick Etienne, Jr., opening the scoring for New York. Vincent Bezecourt added a fifth goal in second-half stoppage time, while Tomas Granitto scored a goal for Swope Park Rangers, the first-year reserve team for Sporting Kansas City.

With the win New York completes a USL double, as they won the regular season title this year in addition to USL Cup. They are the second consecutive team to complete the double, following the Rochester Rhinos in 2015.
