Transfer Watch: Rapids linked to Irish striker Daryl Horgan

Daryl Horgan - Dundalk - Colorado Rapids transfer watch

Could the Colorado Rapids be after another Irishman?

The Rapids, who have Irishmen Kevin Doyle and Sean St. Ledger on the roster, were linked on Wednesday to 24-year-old striker Daryl Horgan, according to The Star newspaper.

Horgan currently plays for Irish top flight club Dundalk United, who currently hold a seven point lead atop the league with three matches remaining in the 2016 season. Horgan has nine goals in 29 league appearances for the club this season, including three in the team’s last three matches.

A former Ireland Under-19 international, Dorgan was named this week to the Premier Division Team of the Year and was listed as one of four nominees for the league’s Player of the Year award. He’s also reportedly been linked to Australian club Melbourne City (a sister club of New York City FC) and English side Ipswich in recent weeks.

Dundalk have been making waves in Europe this year, becoming the first Irish side to reach the play-off round of the UEFA Champions League and second to reach group stage of the Europa League. Horgan has played every minute of every game in Dundalk's historic European campaign, where they currently sit in second place in Group D of the Europa League at the halfway point of the group stage.

Colorado will attempt to win the first Supporters’ Shield in club history on Sunday, when they’ll look to beat the Houston Dynamo at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park and hope for FC Dallas to lose at the LA Galaxy to finish first in MLS.
