Canada Player Ratings: Too many subpar performances in friendly loss

Morocco vs. Canada - Tuesday, October 11, 2016

Interim Canadian head coach Michael Findlay made wholesale changes to his lineup, with only four players (Straith, Osorio, Ricketts, Haber) who started in Thursday’s 4-0 win over Mauritania getting the start against Morocco.

Milan Borjan (6) - Made several good saves and was blameless on the two goals he conceded; was forced out in the second half with an apparent knee injury.

Marcel de Jong (4.5) - (Pictured above) Fortunate not to be called for a penalty in the first half for a late tackle; couldn’t do much to slow down Morocco’s flank attack.

David Edgar (4) - A rough day at the office for the captain on the day; conceded Morocco’s first penalty with a reckless elbow, then saw their fourth goal bounce in off his knees.

Manjrekar James (5) - Composed for most of the night, but a bad first touch and foolish lunge gifted Morocco with its second penalty kick, late in the match.

Fraser Aird (4.5) - A bit tentative after seeing an early yellow card; lost his man in the build-up to Morocco’s fourth goal.

Samuel Piette (4.5) - Seemed to get frustrated in the early going; mostly did his defensive work in midfield before being subbed out.

Adam Straith (4.5) - Strangely lost his mark on Morocco’s first goal; his pairing with Piette in central midfield was largely disjointed on the day.

Simeon Jackson (5) - A mostly silent first half on the left wing; had a few sniffs at goal after halftime, before being subbed out.

Jonathan Osorio (5) - Used in more of an attacking role than against Mauritania, but let his best opportunity (a one-on-one with the Moroccan ’keeper) go for naught.

Tosaint Ricketts (5) - He was, as ever, full of running… at times, it didn’t seem like he had an assigned position, though he did have a hand in a few scoring chances.

Marcus Haber (5) - Still searching for a club team, he couldn’t get much going as a lone striker; several holdup efforts became turnovers.

Anthony Jackson-Hamel (5) - Replaced Haber at the hour mark to earn his second senior-team cap, but couldn’t turn Canada’s attacking fortunes around.

Marco Bustos (5.5) - Brought some attacking urgency as a second-half sub; stung the goalkeeper’s palms with a long-range strike, one of Canada’s few shots on target.

Maxim Tissot (5) - Had a bit of zip upon coming into the game but couldn’t ingratiate himself enough to make a significant difference.

Simon Thomas (5) - Unexpectedly called upon in the second half; stopped one breakaway but couldn’t do much on a penalty kick and own-goal deflection.
