Kick Off: Rapids make case for Shield | USMNT refreshes squad for Tuesday

Here is everything you need to know about MLS and North American soccer this morning:

Closing ground

The Colorado Rapids helped set up an intriguing week of MLS action with a 3-2 road win against the Houston Dynamo in the lone league match of the FIFA international fixture weekend. The three points mean that the Rapids can leap into the lead for the Supporters' Shield with a win on Thursday vs. San Jose (9 pm ET on MLS LIVE).

Comings and goings

The US national team have made a number of roster changes before they host New Zealand for a Tuesday friendly (8 pm ET on ESPN, UniMás). One of nine players brought into the group over the weekend was Bundesliga forward Terrence Boyd, who is glad to be back after a long injury absence.

Gleeson ruled out

One player who won't be featuring in that game is Portland's New Zealand netminder Jake Gleeson, who has been sidelined by injury.

The road ahead

Meanwhile, next up for Canada is a tough friendly test at Morocco on Tuesday (3 pm ET on CanadaSoccer.com). After that clash with the North Africans, the Maple Leaf crew will look forward to stepping it up a notch with a November tilt away to South Korea.

Maximum strength

The Seattle Sounders will be delighted to have attacking aces Nicolas Lodeiro and Jordan Morris making their return to the fold for a key Wednesday game vs. Houston (10:30 pm ET on MLS LIVE).

Staying busy

New York City FC, tied atop the Eastern Conference with rivals New York Red Bulls on 51 points, scheduled a friendly match over the bye weekend, traveling to Mexico for a loss to Necaxa.

Just not into you

The New York Red Bulls have made it clear that they won't be chasing Bastian Schweinsteiger if he leaves Manchester United for MLS.

Coming attraction

American Soccer Now scribe Brian Sciaretta had a chat with 2017 MLS SuperDraft prospect Jeremy Ebobisse, who can't stop scoring while he moonlights with the US Under-20 national team.

Back with a bang

In his return to the Mexican national team, LA Galaxy star Giovani dos Santos wore the captain's armband and led El Tri to victory.

Winds of change

In addition to the proposed rebranding of CONCACAF, the confederation is also weighing big changes to its World Cup qualifying system.

Setting the record straight

Perhaps tired of hearing how he's the first American to lead a Premier League club, new Swansea City boss and former MLS head coach Bob Bradley insists that he's a manager, not a pioneer.

Sightseers

Before Friday's friendly win in Cuba, USMNT players had a chance to check out Havana – and teach a little math in a local elementary school.
