D.C. United announced an ownership change on Monday, as they formally confirmed majority owners Erick Thohir and Jason Levien (pictured above) have agreed to purchase the ownership shares of partner Will Chang.

Chang became a member of D.C. United's ownership group in 2007, and is a co-owner of the San Francisco Giants.

ā€œWe would like to thank Will and the Chang family for their critical contributions to this club for nearly 10 years. We were pleased to partner with them,ā€ Levien said in a team statement.

Thohir and Levien became D.C. United co-owners in 2012. The club is currently in the process of building a new soccer-specific stadium in Washington, D.C. in the Buzzard Point neighborhood.

While Chang, Thohir and Levien owned the club together, D.C. won the 2013 U.S. Open Cup title.
