NYCFC set to build training facility in New York suburbs

New York City FC are ready to move forward with the construction of a training facility in Rockland County, near the New York-New Jersey state line, the club announced on Wednesday.

The news was first reported on Tuesday by local outlet Empire of Soccer.

The facility will be built on a 17-acre site in Orangeburg, New York, some 20 miles northwest of their home ground at Yankee Stadium. The club plans on breaking ground on the facility this fall, with construction due to be completed in early 2018.

The plans for the site include one-and-a-half regulation-sized grass fields, as well as a 25,000 square foot building that will house the team offices and space for player rehabilitation.

The facility is being designed by Rafael Vinoly, the architect responsible for building Manchester City and Melbourne City's training facilities.

The site sits adjacent to the headquarters of World Class FC, one of NYCFC's youth club affiliates, near Lake Tappan, a few miles west of the Tappan Zee Bridge across the Hudson River. As part of the project, NYCFC will make a donation to World Class FC for program and facility improvements.

NYCFC currently train at Purchase College at State University of New York, located north of the city in Purchase, New York.
