Rave Green Rising

Seattle will continue their playoff push when they host Chicago on Wednesday (10:30pm ET; MLS LIVE) without star man Clint Dempsey, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to an irregular heartbeat.

Action in the East

With a Wednesday visit from Orlando City on the card (7:30pm ET; FS1 | TSN4 in Canada), East leaders Toronto FC have a few aces up their sleeve in the fight to finish first. Columbus gets set to visit D.C. United (7:30pm ET; MLS LIVE), and will continue relying on their Scandinavian pipeline to help keep them in the playoff hunt. Montreal, meanwhile, will lay out the welcome mat for San Jose (7:30 pm ET; MLS LIVE) hoping to break their slump and avoid comparisons with the 2013 Impact team that suffered a late-season breakdown.

Midweek CCL action

While Vancouver have already secured a place in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals heading into Wednesday night's visit from Kenwyne Jones and Central FC (10 pm ET; Facebook.com), FC Dallas still have work to do to advance as they host Guatemala's CD Suchitepéquez (8 pm ET; Facebook.com) to battle for first place in Group H .

New boss

Expansion entrants Atlanta United made headlines on Tuesday by naming Gerardo "Tata" Martino as their first head coach. Armchair Analyst Matt Doyle writes that the hiring displays the club's ambition to succeed.

CCL Quarters A-comin'

Thanks to a last-gasp free kick stunner from Darlington Nagbe, the Portand Timbers posted a 2-1 victory at CD Dragon that keeps their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal hopes very much alive. By scoring that result, the MLS Cup holders can now advance with a home win over Group B leaders Saprissa on October 19.

The Red Bulls ensured their place in the final eight of the CONCACAF Champions League with a scoreless draw away to Antigua GFC on Tuesday night. While the result may have been humble, New York boss Jesse Marsch says their advancement signals "a big step" for the club.

Sustained power

Despite their weekend draw with Philadelphia, Toronto FC remain in the top spot of our MLSsoccer.com Power Rankings.
