The European interest in D.C. United center back Steve Birnbaum just wonā€™t let up.

FourFourTwoā€™s Paul Tenorio reported on Thursday that Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv is prepared to make another bid for Birnbaum and that teams in Germany, including Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, have expressed interest in adding the 25-year-old US international when the transfer window opens in January.

It was reported by The Washington Postā€™s Steve Goff earlier this year that Tel Aviv had made two transfer offers to D.C. for Birnbaum.

US national team striker Aron Johannsson plays for Werder Bremen, who unsuccessfully tried to sign Seattle Sounders forward Jordan Morris in January.

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, Birnbaum has appeared in 22 regular season games for United this year, scoring three goals and notching two assists. The California native has eight career caps with the US national team, and was a part of Jurgen Klinsmannā€™s squad at the Copa AmĆ©rica Centenario this summer.
