Canada to play Mauritania, Morocco in October Africa-based friendlies

Canada XI vs Azerbaijan (June 2016)

The next era of the Canadian national team will begin in October, with two friendlies in North Africa.

The Canadian Soccer Association announced on Monday two friendlies to be played next month during the FIFA international window, against Mauritania on October 7 and against Morocco on October 11. Both games will be played in Marrakech, Morocco and the roster for the games will be announced in the final week of September.

The Canadian national team will be led for the two games by former CanMNT and Canadian youth soccer coach Michael Findlay, appointed on an interim basis while the CSA seeks a full-time replacement for Benito Floro, whose contract ran out last week after Canada failed to qualify for the Hexagonal round of 2018 World Cup qualifying.

Morocco are currently ranked 58th in the FIFA Rankings, while Mauritania clock in at 96th in the world. Canada are 103rd in the latest FIFA Rankings.
