MLS Fantasy Rewind: LA Galaxy, Orlando City players dominate Round 28

Giovani Dos Santos - LA Galaxy - On the ball

Soccer is a funny game. One day you’re scoring four goals in Montreal, the next you’re having four goals scored against you on national television.

MLS Fantasy Manager can be a funny game too, as after a busy double game week it was Orlando City that ended up painting much of the Dream Team purple.

That LA Galaxy vs. Orlando City match caused a late swing for managers as Giovani dos Santos ($12.1) turned in a two-goal, two-assist performance that added to his midweek brace, resulting in a round-leading top player score of 37.

Brek Shea ($7.4) scored his second goal of the week as a defender in that game, giving him 14 points and making him top defender in the Dream Team’s 3-4-3 formation.

For most of his Orlando teammates their Dream Team status was established in the midweek goal flurry. Midfielders Carlos Rivas ($9.4), Kaká ($11.8), and Matias Perez Garcia ($7.9) made up three-quarters of the dream team midfield with only a sprinkling of bonus points earned in Sunday’s match. Goalkeeper Joe Bendik saved a penalty in the midweek bout, which was able to counter his penalty allowed on Sunday and give him top goalkeeper honors for the week.

The rest of the Round 28 Dream Team is as follows:

Our top manager for the week, Justin Coen and his squad Crescent Fresh, had the foresight to captain Dos Santos and also include Kaká and dream teamer Joao Plata ($9.7) to reach a lofty 171-point round score. Congrats and enjoy your prize!

Back to School

Things get back to normal this round after the explosive double game week last time out, so here’s what you need to know:

  • Transfer deadline for Round 29 is Friday, Sept. 16th at 8:00 pm ET
  • Every team is in action
  • Keep an eye on the Injury Report

In case you were wondering, Landon Donovan ($10.0) has already been reinserted into the game. The best in form forwards you can get at that price are Plata and Cyle Larin ($9.6) so y’know, get one of them instead, but I just wanted to point out Donovan is there.

Who am I looking at this week? Houston Dynamo midfielder Alex ($5.9) has had a solid couple of rounds, including scoring the last two times out, so he’s looking a good budget pickup to shore up fantasy rosters.

Also, if you haven’t gotten on the Bradley Wright-Phillips ($11.9) train yet, these days he’s scoring like he invented soccer, so it’s probably time you brought him in.
