Christian Pulisic brushes age aside, says he can make impact for USMNT

Christian Pulisic for USMNT

Christian Pulisic is over people using his age against him.

The 17-year-old US national team and Borussia Dortmund midfielder, who scored two goals off the bench in the USMNT’s 6-0 win at St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Friday, told ESPN FC’s Doug McIntyre in an exclusive interview published on Tuesday that his young age shouldn’t make a difference in his potential playing time.

“I’ve said it. I’m sick of people saying, ‘He’s only 17.’ It doesn’t really matter to me. I feel like I can make an impact. That’s it.”

Pulisic, who added an assist to go along with his two goals in St. Vincent, talked about several different topics with McIntyre. One answer in particular – his plans for his 18th birthday in September – belied his young age.

“I’m still working on those Justin Bieber concert tickets. Other than that, it’s my normal training schedule,” he said.

Pulisic and the US will host Trinidad and Tobago in a World Cup qualifier in Jacksonville on Tuesday night (8 pm ET; FS1, UniMas, UDN). Click here for his full interview with McIntyre.
