Report: Mexican clubs interested in Houston Dynamo's Erick "Cubo" Torres

Erick Torres - Houston Dynamo - Looking

The Houston Dynamo have received interest from unnamed Mexican clubs for Designated Player striker Erick ā€œCuboā€ Torres, according to KXLN Houston Univision sports anchor Lester Gretsch.

Torres, 23, signed a high-profile DP deal with Houston in December 2014 after scoring 22 goals in 44 games in a year-and-a-half with Chivas USA. He then spent the first half of 2015 on loan at Liga MX club Chivas Guadalajara before eventually arriving in Houston last summer.

Expected to be a major part of the Dynamoā€™s setup, Torresā€™ stint in Texas has been wildly disappointing. He hasnā€™t been able to beat out Will Bruin or Mauro Manotas for regular playing time in Houstonā€™s one-forward system and still hasnā€™t scored an MLS goal for the Dynamo.

Despite his struggles with Houston, Torres has had a good run with Mexicoā€™s youth national teams. He was a regular call-up to the countryā€™s Under-23s in the buildup to this summerā€™s Olympics and played in two of Mexicoā€™s three matches in Brazil.

Torres' time on the international stage has no doubt given him plenty of exposure to clubs in Mexico. He could potentially find more playing time south of the border than he has in Houston, where heā€™s earned just 401 minutes in 11 MLS appearances ā€“ only four of which have been starts ā€“ this year.
