Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco sidelined four weeks with muscle strains

Sebastian Giovinco - Toronto FC - Down with injury

The injury bug has reared its ugly head once again in Toronto, and this time it has taken a bite out of MLS's defending MVP.

Toronto FC announced on Monday morning that Sebastian Giovinco is set to miss four weeks of action after suffering quadriceps and adductor strains against Montreal in a 1-0 Impact win. Giovinco sustained the injuries in the second half and was removed in the 67th minute.

As if the loss of their star playmaker wasn't bad enough, Toronto FC also revealed that midfielder Jay Chapman is expected to be out three weeks after being diagnosed with an MCL tear. Additionally, veteran defender Ashtone Morgan will be out 6-8 weeks following surgery on Friday for a stress fracture in his foot.

Giovinco is the biggest blow, however. This season, the reigning Landon Donovan MLS MVP is currently tied for the league lead with 16 goals while assisting on 13 others in 26 matches.
