One of the fiercest rivals in all of North American sport in renewed in the 401 Derby as part of Heineken Rivalry Week 2 when Toronto FC play host to the MontrƩal Impact in a crucial Eastern Conference match Saturday evening at BMO Field. TFC are now undefeated in their last seven matches, now sitting atop the East standings, after their 2-1 win at Orlando City SC at midweek. The Impact sit in fifth place in the conference table, comfortably six points above the red line, hitting the road following a 1-1 home draw with D.C. United at Stade Saputo also at midweek.

  • The teams are meeting for the second time this season. Sebastian Giovinco scored goals in each half, leading Toronto FC to a 2-0 win April 23 at Stade Saputo.
  • Since coming to MLS, the Impact have not won in Toronto, with six losses and four draws in 10 meetings in all competitions at BMO Field. TFC won both league meetings there last season. TFC have won two of the three league meetings all-time at Stade Saputo; the Impact did take a 3-0 win in the Knockout Round of the MLS Cup Playoffs last year, in TFCā€™s first-ever postseason match.   • Jozy Altidore scored in a third consecutive match as TFC extended their undefeated streak to six matches ā€“ with five wins in that time ā€“ in their 3-1 win at Philadelphia Union. Altidore has a goal and/or an assist now in five consecutive games, with four goals and an assist in that stretch.
  • The Impact were shut out for the first time since June 18 in their last match, the 3-0 home loss to the Chicago Fire on Saturday. They saw a string of four consecutive draws on the road put to an end in their last match, the 3-1 defeat at the New York Red Bulls on Aug. 13.

  • Toronto FC took the lead in the 40th minute after Jozy Altidore was brought down by Victor Cabrera, and referee Ted Unkel pointed to the spot, where Sebastian Giovinco converted the resulting penalty kick.
  • Giovinco then finished off the match in the 81st minute with a placed left-footed finish from just inside the area after being sent through by Will Johnson.
