The expansion class of 2015 meets for a third time this season in a crucial contest for both teamsā€™ playoff ambitions when Orlando City SC play host to New York City FC as part of Heineken Rivalry Week 2, on Sunday afternoon at Camping World Stadium before an FS1 audience. Orlando City come into the match sitting just a point below the red line, in seventh place in the East, their winless run now at four games following a second consecutive home loss in a 2-1 defeat by Toronto FC at midweek. NYCFC now sit in second place in the conference, now four consecutive games without defeat following their 1-0 win against the LA Galaxy last weekend at Yankee Stadium.

LAST MEETING (MLS):

  • NYCFC took the lead late in the first half when Frederic Brillant scored from a close-range header on a corner kick, then doubled the lead in the 66th minute when Andrea Pirlo found David Villa with a pinpoint pass for a sublime finish.
  • But the home side missed a golden chance to put the game away in the 70th when Villa slipped and skied a penalty kick attempt after a handball in the box from Orlando defender Seb Hines.
  • Orlando City pulled a goal barely two minutes later, when Julio Baptista netted his first MLS goal from a feed by Kevin Molino.
  • The visitors then hit for a stunning leveler in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Cyle Larin headed a cross back across the face of goal and Molino found the roof of the net with an impeccable header to grab a share of the points.
