A pair of clubs right at the qualification line for playoff positions in their respective conferences meet when D.C. United entertain the Portland Timbers on Saturday evening at RFK Stadium. United enter the contest sitting two points below the red line in the Eastern Conference, having played to back-to-back draws at home following their 2-2 result with Philadelphia Union last weekend on East Capitol Street. The Timbers are right on the line in sixth place in the West, snapping a two-game losing skid in a 3-0 home win against Sporting Kansas City last Sunday at Providence Park.

  • United had their winless run extended to six games with a second consecutive draw, Steven Birnbaum scoring a late, late equalizer in a 2-2 draw with Philadelphia Union on Saturday evening at RFK Stadium.
  • The Timbers snapped a two-game losing slide, rebounding from a loss in the front end of their home-and-home series in a 3-0 defeat of Sporting Kansas City on Sunday afternoon at Providence Park. Fanendo Adi netted his 11th goal of the season and Diego Valeri his 10th ā€“ the Timbers are the only team with two goal scorers in double-digits this season.
